By now, we’ve all heard about the importance of social media. But once you have your accounts set up…then what? How do you get people to actually engage with you?
We understand coming up with content for social media can be tough, so to help you out, here are 15 post ideas:
1. Did you recently host an event or have volunteers help out with something? Post pictures! Pictures are social media gold.

2. Are there any big holidays coming up? The Fourth of July? Halloween? Wish your followers a happy and safe day/night. (Bonus: If your office is decorated for the holiday or your staff members are dressed up, snap a quick pic and post it!)

3. Do you have a blog? Did you just publish a new post? Share it on your various social media sites.
4. Even if you don’t have a blog…did you read an interesting industry-related article? Share it with your followers.
5. Ask a question. Let’s say your annual conference is coming up. Try asking, “What session or learning lab are you most looking forward to?” (Don’t forget to respond to people’s comments!)
6. Do you have any new board members? Take a picture of them and share it on social media. People want to see who’s behind your organization.
7. …And speaking of who’s behind your organization, why not do a “Staff Member Highlight” every once in awhile? Post fun facts about them – What’s on their desk, what books they’ve read recently, what their favorite movie is…you get the picture.
8. Do you offer any kind of credentialing or certification? (For example, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) offers the Certified Association Executive (CAE certification.) If so, when people achieve that goal, celebrate it on social media. It’s a BIG deal.
9. Do you have a big milestone coming up? Your organization’s 10th or 15th anniversary? Celebrate it on social media! And give a big thanks to everyone who’s helped you get this far.
10. Who doesn’t love a good #TBT (or Throwback Thursday, as it’s called)? Just because you’re an organization doesn’t mean you can’t participate. Try posting a picture of your very first office or your very first board of directors. People will be amazed at how things have changed. (Plus, it’ll showcase your organization’s growth!)
11. Conduct a poll. This is super easy to do and it’s a great way to collect member feedback. (A few ways to use Twitter’s polling feature here.)
12. Make a book recommendation. Your members look to you for expertise, and this is just another way to provide them with value.
13. Showcase your organization’s swag. Are you giving out t-shirts at your next big event? Post a few teaser pics online. This is a great way to get people excited and boost member attendance.

14. Choose a current event and tie it back to your industry (but only if it makes sense). Here’s an example of how the Public Relations Society of America, the Georgia chapter, did it with the Olympics:
15. Last but not least, highlight your members. If one of your members achieved something spectacular, let it be known on social media! They’re your champions so you should be theirs.
