Spring Training: The 4 “Bases” of Knowing You’re Ready for a Learning Management System

So you think you might be ready to step up to the plate and invest in a learning management system (LMS) for your association. That means you’re probably aware of the key features of an LMS and the impact those can have on your organization. For example…

  • Content storage to get your assets off of a server and onto the web for your members to access
  • Continuing education tracking to analyze your course offerings
  • Assessments to test member retention and comprehension of your courses
  • Revenue generation to increase the amount of non-dues revenue you’re generating

And that only scratches the surface! We’re sure your membership management software has already been a hit for your organization, but if you’re ready to go for a home run, a learning management system is the way to go.

If you’ve been considering an LMS, but aren’t sure if the time is right, here are the four bases you should check off to know your organization is ready:

First base: You have a ton of content, but nowhere to organize it.

Raise your hand if your “documents” folder is just a mess of files — or worse, your desktop! You may THINK you have a system down, but the more content that your association or chamber creates, the more overwhelming it becomes to not have somewhere to house it all. An LMS can not only keep your content organized (based on type, topic, educational track, etc.), but it can also present it all in a visually appealing, easy to understand way.

Second base: Your members are constantly coming to you for resources.

If you’ve ever had a hard time locating a specific piece of content in response to a member request — or found it, but spent way too much time trying to figure out how to send the large file over email — then you’ll really love how easy an LMS makes content sharing. On your end, you can quickly upload content as soon as it’s ready for the public. And on the member end, they can easily find and download whatever they need, whenever they need it.

Third base: You help members with their required industry certifications.

In many industries, professionals are required to maintain specific certifications. Is that true for yours? Or, are you a chamber that would like to provide the means to help those professionals in your community? Then having an LMS is a HUGE member benefit. Not only can you use it to provide valuable content that’ll keep them up-to-speed on industry trends and best practices, but you can also use it to help them track their efforts toward maintaining that certification.

Home plate: You would like to administer your own online learning program.

If you’ve thought about how starting your own online learning program would have a positive impact on your membership’s value, but aren’t sure how to get started, an LMS is what you need! We’ve already talked about how it can house and distribute your program’s content, and track your learners’ efforts — but some platforms can even administer quizzes and create physical certificates.

Ready for a grand slam? The final consideration for knowing you’re ready for an LMS is that…

You’re looking to generate a considerable amount of additional revenue.

An LMS inherently adds value to your membership, because of the resource distribution capabilities (whether that’s on a one-off basis or through a formal program). And anything that adds value to membership gives you more marketing ammo, and makes it a whole lot easier to get more members!

On the flip side, a robust LMS can also grant access permissions by certain groups — meaning, you can use yours to create a stream of non-dues revenue and give non-members a certain level of access for a fee. (And once they’re in there, and see everything a member gets, they’re bound to join!)

Do you feel ready to take a swing at an LMS? Then it’s time to get started! Don’t worry, it’s easy when the LMS integrates with your other systems and comes from a technology provider you already trust…

Yep — I’m talking about MC | LMS, MemberClicks’ learning management system! Built specifically with ease-of-use for both learners and administrators in mind, MC | LMS is an affordable solution that doesn’t skimp on features and seamlessly integrates with your MemberClicks AMS.
