Shining a spotlight on your members (in your newsletter, on your website, on social media, etc.) is great for a number of reasons: It makes that member feel special and highly engaged It helps your members get to know other members If that member is highly engaged (on a committee, for example), it can inspire other members to become more engaged But the key to generating results like that is to put together a fun and engaging member spotlight. It doesn’t have to be long, just...interesting! Below are a few questions - some fun, some serious - you may want to ask in your next member spotlight. (And tip: to keep your readers engaged, you may want to vary your questions from spotlight to spotlight.) How long have you been a member of [Organization’s Name]? Why did you join [Organization’s Name]? What committee do you currently volunteer with? (Note: This is under the assumption that they’re currently serving on a committee.) What do you enjoy most about volunteering? What is your current occupation? What do you love most about [Industry Name]? How do you define success? Who inspires you? If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose? What’s one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month? What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know? What’s the last book you read? What’s the first concert you ever attended? If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? Remember, to have a good spotlight, it needs to be interesting, and that means having a mix a both fun and serious questions. If you have fun writing it, your members will have fun reading it!
