A 20-minute website makeover, say what?!

You probably think we’re kidding, but we assure you, we’re not! Sure, you can’t do an ENTIRE makeover on your website in 20 minutes or less, but there are several things you can do that WILL have an impact. Take a look!

1. Update your pictures

When was the last time you updated the pictures on your website? Are there pictures on your website? If it’s been a while or you don’t have any, this is the perfect place to start. People want to see what your association stands for – the people behind your association (staff members, volunteers, board members, etc.), the work you do, the members of your association (their involvement, etc.). Showcase all of that (with high-resolution images, of course).

2. Clean up your event calendar

If your event calendar doesn’t update automatically, you’ll want to spend some time cleaning that up. Make sure past events are gone and upcoming events show up (with links for members and prospects to register).

But a quick note here: We highly recommend utilizing some kind of system that will update your event calendar automatically. Chances are, you’re busy and don’t get to check/update your website often. But your members and prospects do. Having a system in place that will handle this automatically will ensure your members and prospects are seeing the latest information (without you having to login day in and day out). (An association management system is a great tool to look at for this.)

3. Check/update hyperlinks

The thing about website links is they can easily break or lead to pages that no longer exist. And while that’s bound to happen from time to time, too many can lead to a bad user experience (people can’t get to where they want to go!). That said, spend some time going through your website and checking out the links (and making updates, where appropriate).

4. Add some fresh content

Your association likely produces a lot of content, whether you’re aware of it or not. Do you have any recorded webinars? Do you mail out a quarterly or bi-annual publication? If so, could any of that content be placed on your association’s website? Could you pull an article from your printed publication and publish it on your organization’s blog? Could you tease your next webinar (via a blog post)? Fresh content not only attracts people, but keeps them coming back – and it doesn’t have to take too long to create!
